On the road to Antofagasta I passed lots of derelict towns lying beside the railway. I am not sure but I get the feeling that they were government places that were established during the period of dictatorship and have now been abandoned. White Elephant comes to mind.
Throughout Chile the roads are lined with shrines to people. I assume that these are not to people that have died on the roads because that is a huge amount of people. This guy was obviously a truck driver at one of the nearby mines.
